Surrounding Jungle & Lesser Structures

Walk the shaded outer paths of Chacchoben to see partially unexcavated ruins and local wildlife.

Chacchoben spans over 173 acres, but much of the site remains covered by tropical forest. Along the outer boundaries, large mounds of earth and stone hide unexcavated pyramids and platforms.

These shaded paths offer a quiet alternative to the main plazas. Keep your eyes on the tree canopy for howler monkeys and toucans. You must stay on the designated trails to protect the archaeological zone and the wildlife.

Templo Adosado (Attached Temple)

5 minutesNine-step staircase

Find this square platform structure positioned just off the main path. It features a distinct nine-step staircase. Look closely at the east wall to see where the ancient Maya intentionally closed it up after construction. This quick stop shows how the city modified its architecture over time.

Las Vías (The Roads)

10 minutesFewer crowds

This complex consists of three tiers of low stonework platforms built parallel to each other. Because it sits away from the central plazas, it draws fewer visitors. Stand here to appreciate the sheer scale of the unexcavated jungle mounds nearby.
